JAMIE: My name is Jamie, and I’m a senior FRS territory representative at Ecolab. As an FRS rep for Ecolab, I deliver a comprehensive food safety and sanitation program designed specifically for the food retail industry. My customers include grocery stores and large chain stores that have in-store delis and bakeries. I partner with our customers to identify food safety and sanitation risks through the use of surveys and assessments. I then equip them with the products and training necessary so they can provide a safe and clean environment for their customers and associates.

My days consist of getting up, doing the normal morning routine, packing a lunch, getting the kids ready, get out the door. I have to restock the car from the day before, and then it’s off to the stores for the day.

Any given day, I could be in two, three or four stores depending on how long the visits are. Sometimes it’s maintenance, sometimes we’ll have to do audits. Questions on the audit range from walking the bathrooms, seeing the cleanliness in there, walking the sales floor, looking at cases at cleanliness, to watching associates, make sure they wash their hands, wear gloves.

Ecolab is a very, very safety-conscious company. Throughout our day, everything we do revolves around safety, from the time we get into our cars ’til the time we get on to customer sites.

My favorite, favorite, favorite part of this job is the relationships that we get to create. You’re their eyes and ears for food safety. You’re showing them what they’re doing right, you’re showing them what they can improve upon, and you want to have that working relationship where they trust what you’re saying.

As I’ve been with this company, I’ve learned so much about chemical dispensers, about dishwashers, about plumbing. Basically I can do anything at this point.

I see coworkers every now and again. We work together to do installs, we work together on special projects, so we’re always learning, we’re always creating an atmosphere of just helping each other.

I’ve got two small-ish kids. They’re six and nine. They keep me very, very, very busy. This job allows me to be there for them.

If you were to go and talk to my mom, she would most definitely tell you that I never, ever, ever sat still as a kid. This job is perfect for somebody who doesn’t like to sit still.
